Layers & Lengths

Who else has been stuck in a style rut lately? ME TOO! There’s something about the end of January, the novelty of cosy jumpers and being wrapped up in coats has worn off and you never want to see a scarf again. I fell in to that never ending cycle of a jumper-and-jeans outfit and I was getting seriously bored. All my summer dresses and skirts were calling out to me but I had to resist. So I thought to myself, how I can change things up but still keep warm? And that’s when I came up with this outfit.

I thought, what items do I need to keep warm but stay stylish and inventive. I started with a base to the outfit; my Zara long knit dress. This piece has become one of my favourite items I’ve bought this season. It’s somewhat warm due to it’s thick knit material but still stylish and different due to it’s long line, v neck detail and the buttons. It’s so versatile, I can wear it with a roll neck underneath, on it’s own or, as I styled it here; with a jumper over the top.

I chose my chunky, oversized roll neck jumper from Topshop. I’ve had this jumper for about 3 years and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it. It will always be on trend every winter and I love the HUGE roll neck detail. Plus, it’s SO warm! I love putting jumpers over the top of dresses, it gives the dress a skirt alter ego.

Now normally I pair trainers with this dress, I love the long length of the dress coupled up with something sporty. But this outfit was all about change and that meant giving my Nike Air Force 1’s a rest for at least one day. I wanted to play around with the different lengths of this outfit, I loved the long line of the dress with it’s new silhouette given from the jumper on top. So with that in mind, I experimented with trying on my over the knee boots from Zara. These shoes have never let me down, they are a staple in my wardrobe. I love the way the boots started above where the dress finishes. This was something I talked about lots in my Fashion Forecast video on my channel. This was a huge trend for this season; long boots and long dresses. I also loved the way that the split at the front sometimes showed a bit of leg above the top of the boots. Straight on, I looked completely covered up but as I walked the split revealed the top of the boots and a bit of skin. Of course the boots were practical too, the heel is only about 2 inches so easy to walk in all day plus they keep two thirds of my leg very warm.

I paired the outfit with my puffer jacket. I’ve been addicted to this jacket since I bought it. I was going to pair this outfit with my Zara long camel coat to play with lengths again but it didn’t look how I imagined. I loved the sporty look of the puffer over the rest of the outfit. It gave that sporty edge that I lost from not putting my Nike’s on.
