The Western Trend

Today I am sat in my new Friday coffee shop near my new flat. It’s a very gloomy cold day, the windows have even steamed up so I can only see the head lights of the cars outside passing by. At least in the photos in this post you’ll see better weather!

So, what is the Western Trend? When brainstorming the trend the things I noticed most were patterns, tassels and boots. I also noticed how the trend could be played up and really over the top or simplified for a more everyday look. Some of the designers I thought nailed this trend best were Louis Vuitton, Isabel Marant and DSquared2.

Of course, the leader of the pack is Dior, with their amazing reissue of the Saddle bag, originally designed by John Galliano in 1998 and made famous in Sex and the City. Their whole Resort 2019 show was dedicated to the trend and even included horse back riders opening the show. The models looked like extras in a haute couture version of West World and I loved every second of the show.

But how do we take this trend and make it something suitable for every day? The key I always find with these things is to split the trend and see what it is that can be reworked in to a casual outfit. For example, Dior used western style belts to give the dresses a cowboy-esque silhouette. Isabel Marant used fringing and tassels to give a cowboy showdown flare and both Louis Vuitton and DSqaured2 used neck ties. These are individual items that can easily be integrated in to your normal, everyday outfits. And of course the obvious choice to add some wild west to your outfit – boots, or more specifically cowboy boots.

So here is my take on the trend. Starting with the details. I’ve chosen this belt that I’ve had for years from Primark. With it’s tan colour and western style embellishment it’s perfect for tying in this look. I’ve paired the look with gold jewellery which I think works better than silver for this look and added my Louis Vuitton boots as they have lace up fronts much like the new Chloe boots that they came out with for this trend. Clothing wise I’ve worn this Mango blouse as it has fluted buttoned sleeves which I think work well and paired them with my Urban Outfitters wide leg jeans for a cowboy feel. All together I think this outfit gives off a wild west vibe with out being over the top or too obvious.
